Decided to share with you a cute little heart that I have used for some mugrugs I made for friends and a Valentine mini quilt that I made for myself…Valentines Day is just around the corner…❤️❤️❤️

If you make just one block you will have an extra half square triangle to use for something else…otherwise why not make two heart blocks at once … ❤️️ Cutting instructions is for one block (for two blocks in brackets)

Heart fabric:

1 red/pink 3″ square (for two: 2 squares)

1 red/pink 3 1/2″ square (yields two HST)

Back ground fabric:

2 white/beige 3″ squares (for two: 4 squares)

1 white/beige 3 1/2″ square (yields two HST)

Mark your backgrounds on the diagonal on both your 3″ and 3 1/2″ background squares …sew on both sides of the marking with a 1/4″ seam allowance…

Cut along the mark…between the two seams…Press ALL SEAMS OPEN!

Trim the smaller half square triangles to 2 1/2″

Trim the larger half square triangles to 3″

You will now have for one block 2 x 2 1/2″ half square triangles ( for two: 4 x 2 1/2″ HST)

1 half square triangle that measures 3″ (for two 2 HST)

 1 x 3″ background square (for two: 2 x 3″)

Mark the diagonal… Notice the way the diagonal goes… sew on both sides of your mark and cut in the middle between your seams…

Lay your 45 degree angle on the ruler on top of your diagonal seam…and match the 2 1/2″ mark at the bottom of your ruler with the corners of your triangle… and trim to 2 1/2″

You shall now have four 2 1/2 ” blocks…

My block on the backside with my seams pressed open…

With this block it’s great to chain piece or use leaders and enders since it’s a bit of a bulk at the start of the seam…

Ta da… a cute 4 1/2 ” block to sew to something nice for yourself or for your friends…

Have linked to older blogposts at the top on the words … mugrug and Valentine mini quilt, it will take you to what I made with these hearts…❤️

Enjoy..sew lots of hearts!! ❤️❤️❤️
